Intel is reportedly making various products, including launching mobile processor to support variety of work. Thus, Intel bought wireless mobile patent from Interdigital to support and improve their products.
Reported by Softpedia on Tuesday (6/19/2012), Intel made a deal with Interdigital, a manufacturer and developer of patents such as LTA, 3G and 802.11 wireless technologies. Interdigital has been in several network technologies such as LTE (Long Term Evolution), LTE-Advanced 4G, WCDMA (Wideband CDMA), HSDPA (High Speed Download Packet Access) and HSUPA (High Speed Upload Packet Access).
Through the agreement, Intel purchased approximately 1700 patents and patent applications. Instead, Interdigital will receive USD375 million or 297 million euros.
“This patent will support Intel’s strategic investment in the mobile segment. Addition of this patent is expanding portfolio of company that has large, strong and adds variety portfolio to our intellectual property,” said Senior Vice President and General Counsel Intel, Doug Melamed.
Intel and Interdigital will complete the transaction at some point during the third quarter of 2012 (the period from July to September). CPU Clovertrail or future generation, will benefit from additional IP.
“The acquisition from technology Interdigital portfolio confirms our research efforts and the development team who are actively sharing our innovations around the world. This transaction involving a small part of our overall patent portfolio,” said Senior Executive Vice President, Strategy and Finance interdigital, Scott McQuilkin.
