Amazon reportedly is developing smartphone that will be iPhone competitor. This smartphone will also use Google’s Android operating system.
Bloomberg reported on Friday (7/6/2012), the news was obtained from two people who refused to be named. According to them, manufacturers from China, Foxconn currently is working on this device. Amazon was trying to secure that smartphone through the acquisition of wireless technology patents.
Smartphone production will expands its range of products at affordable prices from Amazon. Through the increasing range of products, it also increases support for Amazon’s strategies that take advantage from sales of digital books, songs and films.
Supports this move, recently Amazon strengthened its patent row with recruiting Matt Gordon who previously served as Senior Director of Acquisitions at Intelletual Ventures Management LLC. The company has more than 35 thousand intellectual property assets.
Through its profile on social networking site LinekdIn, in Amazon, Gordon will serve General Manager for Patent Acquisition and Investments.
Adding rows of patents will help Amazon protect itself from lawsuits resulting from the use of technology illegally. Moreover, according to data from Bloomberg website, Amazon has been involved in five cases of patent disputes this year and 20 cases in the past year.
